The Islands of Siankaba Lodge is the most classic of forested retreats, with six secluded chalets linked by a foot bridge to a haute cuisine restaurant, all on two untouched islands in the mighty Zambezi River between the 'Seventh Wonder of the Natural World', the magnificent Victoria Falls, and the world famous Chobe National Park.

It has been developed as a luxurious five star lodge, exclusively sleeping just twelve guests. The two islands are linked by a suspension bridge leading to an overhead walkway in the tree canopy connecting to the elevated chalets. One of the distinctive features of the lodge is the excellence of its food and wines having developed a reputation for haute-cuisine in the bush to compliment first class service.

They are constructed of teak and custom made canvas tenting and are raised well above ground level into the tree canopy with their balconies extending out over the They are linked by a winding over-head walkway so that our guests do not actually walk on the islands surface in order to protect the fragile riverine environment. All chalets are opulently finished and equipped with en-suite bathrooms, (ball and claw baths and separate shower), mini bar, large mosquito nets, ceiling fan and private safe.

The principle guest amenities are located on the larger island whilst the guest?s chalets are situated on the smaller island overlooking the river towards the game reserve on the southern bank. The up-market yet delightfully African dining room and lounge offer a unique experience of perfect contemporary comfort in a truly African setting. The fully stocked bar will cater for your every need.

An ideal place to relax and enjoy an afternoon refresher is in the shade of the thick riverine forest canopy that surrounds the secluded sparkling swimming pool. Afternoon tea is served daily on the main lodge decking, and allows the lodge's chef to tempt the palate with some of his masterful delights. The decking area also allows one to enjoy unparalleled views of the mighty Zambezi River drifting by.

The privately owned islands are located in a wilderness area, the emphasis is therefore on the scenic beauty of its riverside setting as a place to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the African bush. Guests will also be offered a host of activities available from the lodge - some at an additional fee.

Amazing chance of a lifetime excursion to see the Victoria Falls from the air and the Mosi-o-Tunya National Park. The History behind the Siankaba Islands: On his journey of thousands of kilometres through the heart of Africa, the legendary Dr. David Livingstone first saw the awesome glory of the Victoria Falls from the Zambian side. His memory is enshrined in the nearby town of Livingstone and his heart is buried in this beautiful land. From what is now Shesheke in the west he traveled down the mighty Zambezi River in a large makoro, a perfect replica of which you may ride in at our island retreat today. He then camped on an island upstream of the falls, quite possibly this island as there is no specific record, and then transferred to a smaller makoro, steered by a local paddler called 'the breaker of canoes' in which to traverse the treacherous course of rapids that lay between him and the greatest wonder of the natural world. "Have you smoke that thunders in your country?" the chief asked him, pointing to the columns of vapour rising into the blue sky, their summits seeming to mingle with the clouds. Dr. Livingstone heard the crushing roar of the mighty waters thundering ever increasingly as they drew near, and the boatman skillfully brought them to a halt on an island in the middle of the river. "On the very edge of the lip over which the water rolls." They stood and stared at the boiling torrent below them. He was so awestruck, Livingstone named the earths largest body of falling water after his sovereign, Queen Victoria.

Islands of Siankaba Zambia

Zambia is a vast country, friendly and peaceful, that offers superb wildlife, remote game areas and memorable cultural encounters. Landlocked in central Africa, it has a remarkably low population in a deceptively massive country means that this is still Africa undiscovered with a timeless sense of wilderness and remoteness.
