Stone Age Caverns.

An exciting discovery of ancient stone age caverns was made at GocheGanas Nature Reserve, located a few kilometres from the Lodge. Stone tools and a variety of pottery shards were found, and it has been confirmed that the pieces are between 2000 and 9000 years old.

More and more caverns are constantly being discovered, and it would appear that the natural hot water spring on GocheGanas could have been the reason for stone age humans to settle down here. The possibility also exists that rock engravings or paintings may be found on GocheGanas. Due care is taken to not damage this sensitive area, and for this reason, guided visits to the Stone Age Caverns are offered by GocheGanas Nature Reserve and Wellness Village.

A visit to the Stone Age Caverns lasts about 2 and a half hours, and includes a drive to the site, and thereafter a short walk to the Caverns. On the way back to the Lodge, we stop for sundowner drinks and snacks. Gocheganas also offers guided walks in the vicinity of the Lodge. Given the number of water holes around the Lodge, this remains a popular activity. Again, our guide will inform the guests about the interesting geology, fauna and flora of the area. Guests are also welcome to undertake unguided walks around the Lodge.

The Wellness Village consists of 11 specialist treatment rooms featuring state of the art equipment, a heated indoor swimming pool under a cathedral like masonry vault, an outdoor swimming pool on the Oasis Peninsula affording breathtaking views, a Granite Bath (cave sauna), Kneipp showers and also include fitness, gym and yoga facilities, fruit and juice bar. Gocheganas Lodge Namibia

Namibia is one of those dreamlike places that make you question whether something so visually orgasmic could actually exist. Time and space are less defined here. Landscapes collide. Experiences pile up. Watch a lion stalking its prey on a never-ending plain in Etosha. Fly down a giant dune on a sandboard. Spend a night alone in the desert under a sky so thick with stars you can’t differentiate between constellations.
